Volunteer Resources
at Oilfields Hospital and the Rising Sun

Volunteers are a vital part of the Rising Sun Community and offer support to the residents and staff in numerous ways. This can include spending time in friendly visits with residents, serving refreshments at mealtime, caring for the gardens and outdoor spaces, providing recreation therapy program assistance, musical entertainment, pet visits, as well as offering palliative care support and being compassionate companion to residents.

AHS volunteers are individuals looking for a rewarding opportunity to share their time and provide meaningful support to patients and their families through a variety of roles.

What is the Role of the Volunteer?

Volunteers aid patients and their families in a variety of roles throughout a patient’s healthcare journey.  Many roles include direct patient support, requiring volunteers to be non-judgmental and adhere to AHS’s confidentiality standards.

The preferred applicant:

  • Is able to work collaboratively with health care providers to improve care and experiences for patients and their families throughout Alberta

  • Has a strong desire to help others

  • Is a compassionate listener and is respectful of the perspectives of others

  • Has an ability to work independently or as part of a team

  • Is available for 12-16 hours per month (spread over 3-4 shifts per month) for a minimum 1 year commitment to volunteering with Alberta Health Services.
